pull the plug wires one at a time,,and do the plugs one at a time so you don't cross them up,,and be sure and not over tighten the new plugs too much, and gap them good they don't come pre-set like some people think they do you,ll need a good spark plug socket so it don't break the new plugs when your putting them in,,they will break real easy good luck with it,i hope this help,s.How to change spark plugs in a 98 olds achieva?
Is it a V-6, or 4 cyl.? Is rather simple on either. The V-6 is kind of annoying, as for the back three are a pain to get to. Just buy the plugs you need, with help of the parts store clerk, and I would recommend platinums, unless your getting rid of it. I'd also change the wires too, as they'd be quite old and brittle. I hope this is good enough. An easy way to do it, is also, do 1 at time. You'll see if you take all the wires out at once. So, don't do that.
You may be ';barking up the wrong tree';.

You may want to narrow down the problem before you start replacing various parts.

Just my opinion.......
i have a 88 olds.and if i were you i would clean the throttle body first, thats what i do,get some throttle body cleaner and clean it out but if your going to change the plugs, they are not hard.i have a 3.8 and they arent hard to change, just remember take off 1 plug wire off at a time.
