How to change spark plugs on 2001 lincoln town car?

It's real easy. Your car has what is called ';Coil On Plug'; ignition. You just locate the coils on top of the engine. There's eight of them. 4 on one side and 4 on the other. Unplug all 8 coils. remove the 7mm bolt that holds each coil in. Pull the coils out. They DO come out with no other removal of components. Remove the plugs. Repeat. only backwards. How to change spark plugs on 2001 lincoln town car?

Treat as you would any other car - work carefully, consider that the heads are made of alloy, the plugs probably the smaller size common on modern engines, and use CARE and not BRUTE-FORCE!

Only ever remove one HT lead at a time, so you can't possibly lose the firing-order. Check the HT lead for cracks in the insulation and heat-damage. I always use a good quality socket, with a 1/2'; wrench, to extract the old plugs. Check their condition and read what their colour says about the life they have had - plugs tell you what is going on in the engine.

Using a proper feeler-gauge, set the clearance on the new plugs to the gap stated in the manual or hand-book. Apply just a drop of engine-oil to the threads of the plug, insert it into the socket, and get it started into the hole. I always use a tubular wrench for fitting the new plugs - it is designed to be a weak tool, that will just not be able to murder the plugs in too tightly! The plug should spin easily in, if there is any real resistance, you may be cross-threading it. Check it can be turned back just as easily as it is going in. Get it up finger-tight, and then nip it up with the short swinging-handle on the plug-wrench.

Remember, you don't want to break it! No bicep-strains here please. Replace the HT lead and do the next one. Repeat until all 6 are done.Detailed advice ,how to change spark plugs of hundai sonata 6 cylunder.?
Take them out, they are worth more than the car - scrap the car
to remove the rear plugs you need to remove the intake manifold. this is a complicated process that can't be explained to someone that probably has never done this. better to take it to a shop.

How do i change the spark plugs on my 2001 Grand Prix GT?

A couple of my friends and I already tried but we cannot get the wires to come out of the metal surrounds around the spark plugs. How do i change the spark plugs on my 2001 Grand Prix GT?
twist and pull... you may end up needing new wires for it if you tear them, but there's not a whole lot you can do. use a little dielectric grease in the boots when you reinstall them...How do i change the spark plugs on my 2001 Grand Prix GT?
yea its hard sometimes..they stick..grab the rubber boot and just pull like a mother...try wiggeling the also.
Be careful when pulling the spark plug boots off of the spark plugs.Make sure you pull them by the boot and not by the wire itself.Sometimes twisting to the left or right a couple times and pulling is enough to free the plug wires boots from the plugs. If they are on there that good and refuse to come off see if you can grip the boot with pliers and gently pull them off.
yes its kinda tricky and difficult.. those damn GM designs are stupid... thats why I bought a toyota.. and got rid of the grand prix
Also make sure when you are taking the wires and plugs out that you go in a pattern. EX: take a wire off, then plug, put new plug in then put wire on. Do that for all of them otherwise you might screw up the firing order and it is a pain to figure it out if you mess up.

How do I change the spark plugs in a 2005 Honda Civic VP?

I knew how to change the spark plugs in my other vehicles, but this engine has them set up differently. I'm used to wires being connected from the distributor cap to the plug itself, but on this engine, I still haven't found the wires or distr cap. I know where the spark plugs themselves are, but there is this cylinder thats about 9 in or so long that you have to unscrew and pull out from on top of the plugs. I have a long enough extension to be able to get them out from the bottom of this hole, but it looks to me as if the inside of this tube is copper and its very smooth. Is it b/c its new and never been worked on, or do i need a special tool to keep from scratching it and losing conductivity??? PLEASE HELP!! also if you know where the distributor cap and wires are, please let me know!!!!How do I change the spark plugs in a 2005 Honda Civic VP?
YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO CHANGE THE SPARK PLUGS ON A CAR THAT NEW. THERE ARE NO WIRES BECAUSE YOUR CAR HAS COIL PACKS BASICALLY ON TOP OF EACH PLUG. THE PART THAT IS THE CYLINDER. JUST PULL THESE OFF AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CHANGE THE PLUGS.How do I change the spark plugs in a 2005 Honda Civic VP?
the factories of newer automobiles are trying to not loose money and the main way of them loosing money is people doing things themselfs. if you buy yourself a repair manual for it. It should show you where everything is and how to replace them. if not you might have to take it to a repair shop and spend a bunch of unessasary money. sorry I'm use to old cars

but there are not wires just to let you know so you won't find them but I don't know if they do have distributors.

How do you change the spark plugs on a 2002 Mazda Progege 5?

I have the car and the parts but i don't know how to change them. It's a used car with almost 82k miles on it. It's had only one major problem, the water pump breaking, but other than that its been running fine. Can someone help me???How do you change the spark plugs on a 2002 Mazda Progege 5?
it should be the wires leading from the starter to the top of the engine and at the end of the wire is the spark plugs. You should either have 4 or 6 and you just pull the wires out and the spark plugs should be there. But you might need a spark plug socket to reach them and pull them out. Go to http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/index.p and just search for spark plugs and you should find a thread about it.

How to change spark plugs!!! Trouble shooting?

I was chaining the spark plugs on my grand prix and were the spark plug meet the wire there a metel tube around the wire well when i replaced the spark plug and pressed it down the metel tube seemed loose is that normal are do i need to do something to that!! And on the other spark plug i pulled it to hard and now the part that claps on to the spark plug is showing some and i cant get the plastic sleeve to cover it!!! is that a problem and if so what can happen!! Thanks BrandonHow to change spark plugs!!! Trouble shooting?
Along with new wires you should get a distributor cap and rotor. About the wiggly cylinder I don't know what it could be but i dont think it will be a problem. How to change spark plugs!!! Trouble shooting?
You need to buy some new spark plug wires. You should get new wires every time you change the plugs.
use a pair of plyers to crimp that part tighter so it grabs the head of the plug good and tight,, be real careful not to put a hole in the rubber with the plyers, if your scared u will ruin the rubber use an old rag around the wire and grip it that way,, dont put to much force on it or u wont get the plug in it no more,, take a cpl times to get it right,,and when u replace the plugs its a good idea to use antiseize on the threads and conductive grease on the park plug boot to aid in the next removal,,Art
No thats not a problem . Your wires may be bad but even when there new they can be hard to get on. If you just push hard on the wires you will feel it click and it wont be loose at all.

If you can see the clamps in the wires sticking out it wont be a problem. If you damaged the wire to bad it will just not work and it wont fire off that plug but it will be fine. Wires will last a long time so it will probably be fine.

  • How will i know if i need to change spark plugs?

are there any tell tale signs they need changingHow will i know if i need to change spark plugs?
usually at this time of year, cars start getting damp,a common problem is your spark plug leads,if you start up your car with the bonnet up,look at the plug leads and look for any stray sparks,if they are sparking, use wd40 and spray onto leads around the distributor cap,all lead connections etc.Once you have done this, you will probably get smoke coming from the engine, but dont be concerned at this, its only vapour burning off with the heat from engine, then take your car for a spin.If still the same,go to halfords and ask them for spark plugs to suit your vehicle, they are very easy to change out, remove only one plug lead at a time,so you dont get confused, take your plug key and remove the old plug, install the new one,but do not overtighten, and replace the plug lead, just work from one end to the other until you have changed all four, then off you go!!No rocket science here, you can save yourself around 50 quid doing them yourself, good luck! How will i know if i need to change spark plugs?
They should be changed as a matter of course during a service
If you don't know the answer to this question, do not do them your self, as a long time mechanic Ive been repairing peoples mistakes for a long time, have a friend who knows what he is doing look at them

people believe there car will run so much better with new plugs, and generally this is not the case

newer cars have high quality plugs that can go much longer then years ago
If you have a service book with your vehicle, check to see when it was last serviced. Usually they are changed every time you have a full service, most people have their vehicles serviced every 12 monthes unless you do a lot of mileage then some people have a service every 6 months, or so. Unless there is a problem with the vehicle such as damaged or corroded plugs.
since they are so low cost just change then every 50,000 miles. but if you want to get into reading them for performance get a good chart light brown on the end is good black is too cold/rich white is too hot/lean white can also indicate coolant leaking into your heads.
your car will start to miss you will use more petrol you should change them when you have a service
Depending on your car and whether there is a problem.

Most modern cars (last 5 to 10 years) have spark plugs designed to last 100,000 miles, so you need to know the car manufacturers recommendations.

If the car is miss-firing then they would be checked as part of the elimination process.
your car will run poor or it will missfire.
if the vehicle is down on power or the fuel economy has declined, then you should have a technician pull one plug and inspect it. That's usually how we determine if they need to be changed. Either that or as a matter of due course, every 75,000 miles.
... ummm... if your car has difficulty starting up, runs sluggishly, or doesn't even start at all!!

They should be checked and changed as a matter of course when you take your car in for a service.
If your vehicle is running ruff than it may be a bad spark plug. If you have a car that was manufactured after 1980 spark plugs are usually Platinum and don't need to be changed for 100K miles. As a Mechanic the spark plugs are usually the last thing I check. There are many other problems that would make you think it is the plugs but it isn't. You should have a mechanic look at the vehicle to determine what needs to be address. You may or may not be able to make the repairs to the vehicle your self but at least you will know what is wrong with it. Look to the fuel injection, fuel pump, clogged filters first...Enjoy the ride!
normally spark plugs can be cleaned up and adjusted ,but if you look and find the electrode is broken or worn you have to change them
Take plug out clean with wire brush check gap with feeler Gage's look in manual for plug gap size,do one by one putting leads back when doing one by one, don't mix leads up,Impotent.if plugs look shot buy new
generally all the car maunfacturers recommend through a chart to change the plugs and filter etc,

but if your car has a delayed start than normal it is first symptom other than that it is advisable to change when you feel the car gives a missing signal subsequently developed in to rocking the engine.

How do I change the spark plugs on a 1994 Chevy Corsica?

The garage quoted me $300 to change them since the engine is mounted sideways. How do I change the spark plugs on a 1994 Chevy Corsica?
I assume you have the 3.1 V-6 engine...

The rear are the hardest, yet I can change them all in about 15 minutes. Just remove the ignition coil brackets, lift the unit up and out of the way. Make sure you mark what wires go where I get the firing order.

Then reach back and pull the ignition wires off the spark plugs. Use an extension bar and spark plug socket to remove the spark plugs. One at a time....

Install in order and your done. Reinstall ignition coil and you just save around 280.00 :)How do I change the spark plugs on a 1994 Chevy Corsica?
All you need to do is find your spark plug wires and follow them to the engine. Pop them off one at a time and use a deep well socket (probably 5/8) and a ratchet (you might also need an extention) to take the plugs out. You'll need to check your spark plug gap before putting the new ones in, you can get the little tool at the auto parts store (just ask), and they might even be able to tell you there what the gap needs to be. Be sure you put the new plug in (tighten until just snug, don't crank the crap out of it) and replace the wire (use a little dielectric grease inside where the wire fits over the plug) before moving onto the next or you may get them mixed up and your firing order will be screwed up, therefore your car won't run.
go get you a rachet socket set make sure that you get an extended bar so you can reach the spark plugs do it yourself it's not hard and you can borrow the tools and that way all you have in it is the cost of the plugs and a little bit of your time.
Yes I've heard it's called the three plug tune up, because you have to be a contortionist to change the rear plugs......it's done from under the car reaching up between the firewall...$300 is probably a good deal...........

How often to change spark plugs?

i own a repair shop, and i always change them in all my customers vehicles around every 15-20 thousand miles they will last a little longer ,but to keep one running good its better to change them, so it will always get good fuel economy,, when they get a little old they break down when the get hot and don't fire real good if you change them at least every 20 thousand you,ll be fine ,good luck i hope this help,s.How often to change spark plugs?
You should do this every 25-30,000 miles in regular condition. However, you can also use spark plugs to quickly diagnose an engine and any possible problems. I like to change them out whenever I do this just for the sake of doing it. There's a guide in the back of all Hayne's Manuals that compares pictures to let you know how well (or bad) an engine is running. How often to change spark plugs?
When my car needs them changed, I change them. If I buy a used car I change them after I take posession. Check them at least every 6 months.

I do this all the time.
Spark plugs these days will last 60,000 milles with no problem. Didn't always be that way.
I change mine about every 25,000 miles. My vechicles claim the plugs are good for 100,000 miles. But that is in perect driving conditions. Changing the plugs on a regular interval is a cheap insurance for peak performance %26amp; good gas mileage. Also I don't have to worry about the plugs being seized into the heads when it does hit the time they claim I should be changing them.
Ideally every 10-15000 kilometres. Also it depends on your driving condtions, if you do a lot of stop/start, town driving, I would reccoment every 10000 and open road about 15000!
You should change your spark plugs after every 40,000 KMs of vehicle running. However these should be get cleaned after every 5000 KMs or whenever your vehicle knocks. You must check the gap of spark plug every 5000 KMs.
What kind of car? What are your driving conditions? What does the MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE in your owners manual say? Does the engine have a mis-fire?Answer these questions first, then maybe we can help you.

I pulled out the wires, but there is some sort of boot around the hole, and I can't get to the plugs that way.How do i change the spark plugs on my 05 ford focus?
Be gentle and twist the spark plug boot as you pull up on it, you don't want to break the bottom half of the boot off the extension, If you do use a coat hanger and reach down on the side of the boot and dig it out. Good Luck and GOD BlessHow do i change the spark plugs on my 05 ford focus?
Pull one wire off at a time and change one plug at a time. If you pull all the wires off then change all the plugs at once you will have no way of knowing which wire goes back to which plug.

How do you change the 3 rear spark plugs on a 1996 3.3 Dodge Caravan?

We've got a 3.3 Liter Engine 1996 Dodge Caravan, and we want to change the spark plugs. I can get to the front three, but I can't get to the 3 rear ones.

I've hear they sell a special socket at Sears, but I don't know if this is true. Is there any way I could do it without a purchase. I don't want to drop the sub frame either.

So if anyone knows of any forums or guides I can go to, or something you might know. I've Googled it already, but I can't find anything.

Thanks a million! How do you change the 3 rear spark plugs on a 1996 3.3 Dodge Caravan?
This is when you have to ask yourself ';What were they thinking?'; It seems sometimes there was no thought at all given to ease of maintenance. I came across this, which may or may not be of help in your case. It sounds like a real nightmare. Good luck:

Changing spark plugs on the Chrysler 3.3/3.8 litre engine is very awkward. You can do the aft leftmost two by working from underneath on the back side of the engine (it does not take much lift of the vehicle for appropriate reach when crawling under on your back, to reach standing up would take a high lift), using a non-swivel socket with medium extension bar and preferably a 3/8'; ratchet drive. The rightmost is a long reach from above.

(All directions are from driver's seat. You'll be working almost blind thus it is difficult to judge the angle of the plug and your wrench. I recommend blowing air into the well around the plug to remove sand and pebbles that would fall into the cylinder once you've removed the plug.) You'll want a good wire puller, preferably that locks onto the plug wire below the bend in it and has very good grips for your hand as the tight space makes gripping difficult and there is little room to pull, though I have pulled the wires off with my bare hands. A normal spark plug socket without swivel should work, using short to medium extension bar, but wrench space will be tight and you'll need an experienced touch to start threading the replacement plug in correctly.

For the centre aft one you can get both hands in, one each side of exhaust take-down pipe.

For the aft right one some people detach the alternator bracket.

The aft plugs are angled opposite to the front ones, as if the same head casting was used, with a bend %26amp; tab in the wire as the front ones have. Looking at the front ones you can also see how far they are recessed.

    - While you are underneath reaching up the back side of the engine, tighten the centre aft bolts of the rear valve cover with a 10mm wrench.

Preferably medium length with open and closed ends, one angled with a bit of offset as is common on closed-end wrenches (as the cover has a lip around the edge). There is not enough room for the height of a 1/4'; socket wrench.

You should be able to reach the middle two from the back side, and perhaps one or two more that can also be reached from under the hood.

    - Back around the front of the engine (well, start there first so you know which ones are left to do from the rear), you can reach these valve cover bolts: %26gt; with a 1/4'; swivel and long extension on a 10mm socket, the right most aft bolt of the rear valve cover (through the cutout in the alternator bracket), the left-most aft bolt of the rear valve cover (with care), and with even more tricky maneuvering the front RH bolt of the aft valve cover (otherwise you can take the coil pack off: 4 bolts, the underneath ones on more of a pedestal than the top ones). %26gt; with a long extension on a 10mm socket all other valve cover bolts.

Kokopelli think painted pony much better option. No have spark plug. How do you change the 3 rear spark plugs on a 1996 3.3 Dodge Caravan?
    under the wheel well
There are two methods. (1)Assuming you don't have a lift, put the van on jackstands or ramps. You don't need any special tools, but it is a difficult reach to remove the wires carefully and the plugs. Also it is hard to get the install angles for the plugs as it mostly a by feel operation and a real stretch on the hands and joints. But very doable with a lot of patience and flexibility. (2)A dealer mechanic has indicated to me that they take off the windshield wiper cover surround and pull it to gain the additional clearance needed to do the job from above, and apparently this is the smarter move as a dealer guys usually have scienced out the better ways to do things and maximize the return.

How important is a tune up or changing spark plugs?

I know changing oil is very important , but my $$ is very tight and my car hit 69,000 miles and I have 2005 PT Cruiser where I have changed the 2 spark plugs that are easy to reach but not the 2 underneath. Can I do damage by not replacing them or just suffer poor gas mileage and performance? ThanksHow important is a tune up or changing spark plugs?
Many vehicles can go over 100,000 miles before the plugs need to be replaced. It won't damage the vehicle to have worn plugs. How did the ones you remove look? If the plug starts to misfire, you will get a check engine light. Spend your money on the things that are really important and can cause damage if neglected. Oil you've been doing, that is important and the other two important items would be your transmission fluid if it's and auto and the timing belts if you have one. Neither of these may be due yet. Check your owner's manual for service intervals. How important is a tune up or changing spark plugs?
its not going to hurt your car if you wait to change them granted you may down the road have a break down related to them not being changed but it will be fine
to start out, the platinum plugs that should have been in there form the beginning, do not have to be changed till about 100,000 miles. replacing only two will not have any ill effects on the engines life span, its not so great on the fuel economy, bu that is about it,
    Bad spark plugs can results in a lot of problem;

    1. poor starting

    2. idle rough

    3. poor gas mileage

    4. car wont run smoothly

It looks like the intake manifold will have to be removed. My question is does it have a gasket and is it reusable or will the gasket have to be replaced? How to change spark plugs on 05 nissan pathy 4.0, V6?
That is funny I remove the 6 coils and change the spark plugs with out removing the intake upper plenium. Yes it looks difficult but remember those platinum plugs last over 100,000 miles. Be sure to only use the spark plug brand and heat range that came with the truck. Changing the resistor value with the wrong plugs can cause other problems.

How to change spark plugs on a 2007 fj cruiser?

remove the coil on top of the engine. You will need long extension to reach the spark plug.

How to change spark plugs on 2005 honda civic?

Remove the wire cover using a Flathead on the 2 plastic screw thingies. The plastic peice on top of the engine that usually says Honda.

Remove the little nut from the Ignition Coils, careful those little buggers like to drop down into the bay and since they are black, not fun to find.

Lift the coils slightly so you can unplug the wire by squeezing the sides of the plastic clips for the wires and pulling it off.

Use a 5/8 I think plug socket to loosen the plugs and lift them out..

Put the new ones in using some anti seize compound, put about a drop the size of a sunflower seed, maybe little more on your finger and rub your finger around the threads to give them a nice coat. Tighten them to about 12lbs of Torque. Start by hand tightening them with the 5/8 plug socket on the end of an extension, if they don't turn easy back off and try again, do not, do not, do not strip them, or force them in some weird way. You should get a few nice even easy turns out of them by hand.

Put a dab of diaelectric grease into the ignition coils, helps if you buy the can of the stuff with the little plastic nozzel, I got some from Autozone. It's in a white and red can.

Slide the coils in most of the way far enough to plug the wires back in, push the coils back all the way down and put the little nuts back on.

Put the wire cover back on.

How to change spark plugs on a 200 toyota Tacoma?

    1. Get a service/repair manual before you start any of your own work on your vehicle.

    2. Make sure your motor is off and cool before you start.

    3. Take just one spark plug wire off one plug by grabbing the spark plug wire boot and not the wire itself. Or use a spark plug wire puller.

    4. Make sure there is no dirt and/or oil around the spark plug. If needed, wipe the area around the spark plug hole being careful not to brush the dirt and oil away from the hole.

    5. Take out that plug with the proper tools by turning the plug to the left (counter clockwise). Usually the tool is a 13/16 or 5/8 deep socket. You may have to have a swivel joint and an extension also.

    6. Replace it with a new one turning the spark plug in by hand until hand tight.

    7. Use the same tool you used to take out the old plug to snug up the new plug.

    8. Connect the spark plug wire onto the new plug. Make sure it is on. They usually kind of snap on.

    9. Follow steps three through eight until all spark plugs have been replaced.

    Tips:

    1. While you are at the parts store you might want to get a spark plug gaper and spark plug wire puller. Even though the gap is pre set on new plugs it is a very good idea to check it (ask the counter clerk at the auto parts store for the recommended gap). The wire puller saves the wires from pulling apart from the boot.

    2. Doing just one plug at a time helps you to keep everything in order. A crossed plug wire means the vehicle will miss fire or fire out of order.

    3. Take a good look at the old plugs. They can tell you a lot on how your vehicle is running.

    4. While you are under the hood, consider spending another $20 - $30 for high quality plug wires.

    What You Need:

    * Socket Driver

    * 3/16 or 5/8 deep socket

    * 3'; and 6'; drive extensions

    * Swivel adapter for the driver allows for tight spacesHow to change spark plugs on a 200 toyota Tacoma?

it take about half an hour to replace all of them. make sure the spark plug gap is .8 mm. using a ratchet, extension and a socket, remove all spark plugs. apply a small amount of anti-sieze on the spark plug threads and di-electric grease on the end of the spark plug where the spark plug wire connected to . just hand tighten when installing.
4cyl or v6? 4 cyl you need to remove the air intake plumbing. Then pull out the plug wires, last remove and replace the plugs. Buy factory plugs. They are not that expensive, they are exactly what you nees and they DO NOT TO BE GAPPED!!. V6 is much the same. Remove air intake hose, use a 10mm socket to remove the coil packs from the valve cover on the pass side. Remove and repl plugs. Driver side, remove plug wires and repl plugs. Take your time and DON'T CROSS THREAD THE PLUGS INTO THE HEAD!!!
After 1800 years, they must be frozen in the head.

How are 2003 Ford Expedition spark plugs numbered?

We need to change the spark plug %26amp; coil wire on #3. Problem is - how do we know which is the # 3?? A friend changed what he thought was the number 3 - but the numbering must have been misinterpreted, because it wasn't the 3. Changing spark plugs is like our monthly maintenance on this beast %26amp; I hope once this one gets done it will settle down...thanksHow are 2003 Ford Expedition spark plugs numbered?
Scullycj is correct about the way the cylinders are numbered. Cylinder #3 is the 3rd cylinder from the front on the passenger side. Or interpreted another way, the 2nd cylinder on the passenger side from the firewall. If changing spark plugs seems like monthly maintenance, you obviously have other issues causing the miss. One last, but very noteworthy to mention tip. Use ONLY Ford/Motorcraft spark plugs and other electrical parts in order to avoid headaches. Doing this job more than once is probably no fun as you already know. Hope this helps. How are 2003 Ford Expedition spark plugs numbered?

Passenger side starting at the front going backward. 1-2-3-4 Drivers side starting at front and going back. 5-6-7-8
If it is a straight 6, the front plug is #1 and the rear is #6. If it is a v8, the plus number 1-4 on the right side and 5-8 on the left side. The cylinder number should be cast on the intake runner to that cylinder. At least they used to do that.

After how many miles should u change your spark plugs? Iridium plugs last 100k miles?

I often get different answers as to how many miles your spark plugs are good for. I keep hearing that the iridium plugs last 100k miles but this seems a lil hard to believe, how true is that claim? After how many miles should u change your spark plugs? Iridium plugs last 100k miles?
are they gaped properly thats all you need to knowAfter how many miles should u change your spark plugs? Iridium plugs last 100k miles?
The plugs will be fine the problem we find is a lot of the time the spark plug wont come out. I suggest to replace at 60k just for that reason, and have anti-seize on the threads and then dielectric grease to the spark plug boot to keep moisture and water out, also ads to boot removal next time.
It depends on the motor and im not sure about iridium plugs but Platinum plugs have been around for years....I have a 1999 suburban that came with Platinum plugs, GM recommends replacing them at 100k........I have 151,000 on them....no misfires, but they probably dont look too pretty : )
40,000 to 50,000 miles. Before you buy Iridium plugs ask for the 100,000 mile warranty.

Is it a V-6, or 4 cyl.? Is rather simple on either. The V-6 is kind of annoying, as for the back three are a pain to get to. Just buy the plugs you need, with help of the parts store clerk, and I would recommend platinums, unless your getting rid of it. I'd also change the wires too, as they'd be quite old and brittle. I hope this is good enough. An easy way to do it, is also, do 1 at time. You'll see if you take all the wires out at once. So, don't do that.
You may be ';barking up the wrong tree';.

You may want to narrow down the problem before you start replacing various parts.

What year is it? If it is a newer one, you will probably have to remove a cover from the top of your motor. The cover is supposedly a shield, serves no purpose in my opinion. On my truck, I have to remove the fuel rail in the back since it is a v6 to get to the last 3. If it is older, all you need is a spark plug socket, a long connector and the Ratchet. When you install them though, only hand tight. Too much can strip out the threads in the motor.

yes, you need to calibrate the spark plug. If you dont know the gap that is required, check on your hood, on the stickers, it would on one of those stickers.

if you haven't bought them, ask if they are all ready calibrated, if you already bought them then check on the box if they say if they are calibrated or not.

if you don't have a calibrating tool then go to an autozone, they ussualy cost around a dollar.

You will need to first buy new plugs, 4 most likely. Then, see if the car has a coil pack, or ignition coils for each cylinder. If you have a coil pack, then trace the wires to the plugs, usually on top of the motor, or toward the front (grill). Remove one wire, and one plug at a time.

If you have ignition coils, then you need to take the coil off the top of the plug, usually a small nut. Then take the plug out, and replace the coil. They are usually small and square, held on by either one of two short bolts. How to change spark plugs in 2002 dodge neon?
it easy take it to your macanic. or the dealer ship.
trade it in. You will have new spark plugs after that.
Twist and pull off the wires on the top of the valve cover. The wires must go back on the same plug, but they are marked 1-2-3,and 4 on the coil (thats where the other end of the wires go). It will be hard to get them out of order, but still you may only want to do one cylinder at a time. The cylinders are numbered 1-2-3, and 4 from the front of the ngine to the rear (left to right if you are in front of the car)

Once you have removed the wire/s from the plug, use a 5/8'; spark plug socket and an extension and ratchet to remove the plugs. Check the gap om the new plugs and screw them back in. Tigthen til they just seat, the turn an additional 1/4 turn only. TIP, to help get them started, use a piece of rubber hose on the end of the plug as a tool to start it into it's hole, then finish as described above.

If you have 50,000 or more miles on your car, it's probably a good idea to change the wires also. They are fairly cheap.

which engine? 2.5 is straightforward. follow the ign wires to the plugs, and change each one. 2.3 is way different. it has a cop system. left bank is easy, pull the intercooler, pop off each coil, change plugs. right bank is a bear. i remove a lot more stuff than others to get at them, esp #5. egr valve, junction bracket by the solenoids, disconnect all the connectors. to get at the coil connector for #5, i pull the rear intercooler, which means pulling the battery, and moving a coupla wiring harness'. takes about 2 hours for the right bank, it can be done faster, but i take a lot of breaks. one caveat. get the correct spark plugs, or you get to do it all over again.

You should have individual coils on each plug. These are held in place with ONE 8 or 10mm screw on each coil. Once you remove the coil, you can gain access to the spark plug. For best results, install a set of Bosch Fusion or Denso Iridium plugs. These engines should have synthetic oil used in them EXCLUSIVELY!!

Ever heard of an IAC (Idle Air Control valve)? This is on the throttle body and it it what opens the throttle slightly when your AC is turned on to adjust for the power used by it. Replace this and your problem is solved. You should replace the plugs anyways if you haven't in the last 60k miles or so. For that, you need a ratchet, socket (probably 5/8 spark plug socket) and an extension. Replace them 1 at a time and replace the wires as well. Then replace your cap and rotor, making sure you put the wires on the right places on the cap. Pick up a Hayne's repair manual just in case. If you lose your place on where the wires go, it will help you figure out how to route them. You don't want to mix them up.How to Change Spark Plugs on a 1993 Toyota Camry 4Cylinder?
this is just a guess, but i would say pull the spark wires, only do 1 at a time, then pull the spark plug out, put new plug in, replace wire, move on to next spark plug, be sure not to crossthread any spark plug, and do when the motor is cold, not hot

Follow the black ignition leads to the plug caps and they will be under there. Spark plugs are always screwed into the top of the cylinder headHow to change the spark plugs on a VW Polo 2004?
Think you have coil packs on that. There might be 4 coil packs on top of the cylinder head (look like black little boxes bout 2'; square) with electrical connection plugs clipped to them. If so there will be 4 screws in each corner of the 4 packs (small might even be torque screws?)

Ignition off, remove electrical connectors, Unscrew the 4 screws and pull off the pack which will have black rubber tube like thing which is popped on to the spark plugs. Your plugs will be down 'da ole'! Remember you must gap the new plugs to the manufactures specs with a feeler gauge. Give the threads some copper slip grease to stop them ceasing in the head.

Failing that, if you still can't find them then your probably driving a diesel.

Technically the first guy is right but I am sure your problem is accessing them. You will have to take the front fairings off and go ahead and remove the front wheel cover plastic as well. Then take the radiator off but leave all the plumping hooked up and just use wire to hang the thing off to the side out of the way. Now you should be able to access them but I am not sure about the ninjas or even what year bike you have if the fuel rail is in the way remove it too but be sure to hook the thing back up the same way you took it off and do not forget the wiring harness, I did that once when changing a cam chain tensioner and the fi light came on and gave me quite a scare thinking I broke the bike.

Do yourself a favor if you bike is newer and is fuel injected, get your plugs from a dealer or at least quality iridium (spelling is probably off on that one) since they will actually last more than one season and will save you all of the trouble of dong this work over and over again. Some people say these plugs will outlast the bike, I doubt that but they do last at least 6 seasons and counting on my old f4i.

Your 3.0L V6 uses coil over ignition, quite a modern design for 1990.

To replace the plugs, first remove the ';balance tube'; at the top rear of the engine to help gain access to the coils. There is 1 coil per cylinder so simply disconnect the electrical connectors (one at a time) and remover the coil fasteners. Lift the coil up and off the sperk plug. From there it's a straight forward procedure to replace the spark plug.

My car is idoling not so good %26amp; The gas mileage is not as good as it was before. The man at advanced auto parts said he thinks I need a tune up. How do I know that's what the problem is? Can I just change spark plugs and not both the plugs %26amp; Wires? Thanks!Change spark plugs %26amp; Wires or just plugs?
It's a fact that cheap non platinum or iridium spark plugs will be used-up after 30,000 miles of driving. Platinum tipped plugs last no more than 50.000 miles. Iridium plug will last 75 - 100,000 miles. *The trick is to remember to change ignition wires ever 50,000 miles regardless of spark plugs used. The fragile radio resistance carbon inner core cracks and breaks with under-hood heat and age. Electrical resistance goes up which can be verified with an ohms meter. Additionally the outer insulator jacket on the wires leak electrical voltage to ground inside the engine compartment. No way on this green Earth do ignition wires last the life of any car or truck. Mr. Know It All doesn't know everything! If they did last the life of the car why are so many companies selling replacements?

Don't use cheap box store spark plug wires. MSD, Taylor, Morroso and AC-Delco are the best ignition wires you can buy.Change spark plugs %26amp; Wires or just plugs?
Spark plug wires should last the life of the car.

    15 years at least.

Perhaps one of the spark plug wires is just loose on the spark plug??
Well if you do it yourself get the tools you need and pick up the repair manual for your car and make the changes, check the owners manual for the intervals of what needs to be changed and make the changes. Read the manual ( repair manual ) and get the understanding on what you want want do. Drop us a line back and let us know how you did or if you have a problem. good luck.
Those companies that say gas cap when they pull the codes don't know what they are talking about. That code means there is not a full seal on the fuel system. (There is more connections to a gas tank then the fill cap) If your code is saying its the fuel problem then it is. You need to check everything going and coming from the gas tank. I had a simple hose come loose on my tank and that was the problem not the cap.
the code for evap leak could be from a leak other than the gas cap, and an evap system not working correctly would effect the fuel mileage. If the only code is evap leak, changing the plugs and wires would not fix an emissions leak. when you need a tune up you would get a code saying misfire. these spark plugs should be changed every 30,000 miles and unless they are damaged 80,000 miles on the spark plug wires.

How much should it cost to change the spark plugs and replace the transmission fluid/filter on a Grand Prix?

ThanksHow much should it cost to change the spark plugs and replace the transmission fluid/filter on a Grand Prix?
Josh didn't mention changing his transmission filter so, add about $20 or so.

Yes, you ';have'; to have the plat. plugs or else your Check Engine light will come on.

The Plat. plugs are also why you got 102k out of your first ones.

Not sure about the LA area but, 6 plugs at about $15 a piece is normal - plus labor if a garage does it.

[Plus beers, if I do it... :) ]

[[Correction, ';plus beers as I watch you do it and I supervise.';]]

Total should be less than $200 if you do it. $325ish if done at a shop. How much should it cost to change the spark plugs and replace the transmission fluid/filter on a Grand Prix?
Considering, it's a 2002 with that many miles i would also have the spark plus wires replaced. Get the platinum spark plugs.

I had my done by the dealer for about 85 dollars.

Also, I changed the fluid myself. The fluid is expensive for this car type. You need type IV.

I used Castrol and it took 4 quarts costing 6 bucks a piece.

So your looking at about 125-150 bucks if you do the tranny fluid yourself.

It's a 2.5L if I'm not mistaken.... should be right up on top all five of them. But I'm sure it's going to have a lot of covers under the hood to make it looks all nice so you're going to start by removing all the covers. than you can tart off by going to your local parts store and finding out what plugs it takes. I would guess platiniums. But you're going to need to correct tools for the job, and if you don't know what your doing you could cross thread them into the head, and than that'll cost you big bugs. I'd rec. taking it to a dealership or a local shop, people who are certified in the job. But if you do attempt to do it, you're going to need to make sure you got the right plugs, and the right gap on the plugs (even if they say their pre-gaped, I suggest you still check them.)

Not a job for a girl, I know.

When you open the hood they are right in front of you. There are spark plug wires on them. You remove ONE spark plug wire at a time by twisting and pulling on it from the bottom of the boot. You remove the spark plug with a ratchet and spark plug socket. You use a spark plug feeler gage to set the gap and you apply a small amount of anti seize to the threads of the spark plug and start screwing it in by hand then tighten it with the ratchet and spark plug socket. You then snap the spark plug wire and boot back on it and go on to the next one and repeat. You do this with all four of them.

The best thing to do is watch a mechanic do it until you feel that you can do this. It becomes clearer when you watch it being done a time or two or three.

    Also... FUEL FILTER

Should be on at the Gas tank, and one before the fuel rail in the engine compartment.
The fuel filter is probably either in the engine bay (not likely, usually its early 90's foreign cars that placed them here) or on the fuel line under the car, look on the engine side of the gas tank.

Whatever is on top of the spark plugs, whether its the intake manifold or an engine cover, just find the bolts, and take them off. Shouldn't be too hard.

You will have a wire. It has a boot on each end, one side snaps onto the dist. of engine, then wire runs down to spark plug.

Where theres another boot that snaps onto the end of the plug.

Remove the boot from plug and you will see a white colored round object sticking out. Te the starting of that you will have a 5/8'; wrench hex.
